Unit 7

Hello fellow bloggers and Happy Holidays!
This has been a busy 2 weeks for me with starting a new job and preparing for the holidays.  Amazingly I did find time to try and keep to my daily practices as much as possible.  Before attempting the new exercise for this week.  I really focused on doing the subtle mind and love and kindness exercise.  I had tim for a great Rikki massage I think I am spelling that right. It was a wonderful experience I don't thhink i have ever felt so relaxed in mind body and spirit.  It was a gift from my husband so that made it even better.  My outlook on life has grown so over the course of this class I am so glad I took it.  The "meeting asciepius" meditation was really difficult over the holiday as it is time my mother is constantly on my mind anyway, so focusing was difficult.

"One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself" I love this saying because there are too many times when you are facing problems or a situation and everyone has answers on how to handle it but no one really has the experience.  It is almost like the overweight provider talling his patient that heor she has to lose wieght for their health and how easy it is but they are clearly facing this struggle their selves.
It also goes for some-one who has never had a weight problem and they are giving you all the answers on how to succeed without showing any empathy.  I think the saying is telling us to see clearly all sides of the situation, picture or problem lends to the success of great leaders.  As the example in the book go I can look at a map or a picture of Hawaii but until I actually go and experience it I will never understand it.  I know that is true becuase although I read and listen to people talk about living overseas I truly did not understand the experience of living in a different country until I actually did it.

  1. Deborah,
Congrats on the new job! I hope the stress wares off quickly and your new found exercises help you through the tough days.
I completely agree with you that the sang "One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself" is very critical to every aspect of our lives. People think they are doing you a favor when they give you all of their opinions about how you should address a fear or new obstacle in your life. However, it is the people who have truly walked out their advice that should be listened to and not others. Unfortunately, genuine people are hard to find. It is only human nature to want to help. However, you need to walk your own path through the turmoil first and practice the exercises yourself before you can help another person.
    Great post!

  2. Hi Deborah,

First - Congratulations on your new job! The Rikki massage sounds great! Sorry to hear you had a hard time with this exercise. I actually found this meditation experience the best for me thus far. I felt an inner peace as well as the love, wisdom and strength of my father as he entered my body though the bright light. It was actually an experience I had not felt before. Wishing you a Blessed New Year ~Michelle~

  3. Congrats on the new job!
After doing the meeting ascepius exercise a second time I liked it. I really think you have to focus on this one. The first time I do one of the exercises they are not usually successful or helpful but the second time seems to do the trick. And the thing about giving someone advice when you have not experienced the same thing or have walked in their shoes is totally rediculious. If you read my blog you will see I experienced something very similar and well it turned out for the good. I actually taught a well educated person something. This was well before I returned to college. I do not feel that anyone no matter how much education they have should criticize, or look down on someone because they do not agree with someone elses life unless they have actually walked in their shoes.
